The Opposite of HollywoodMargo Perin s new novel is the opposite of dull If you enjoy razor sharp writing and sychological thrillers this is for enjoy razor sharp writing and sychological thrillers this is for If you enjoy novels about multi layered family relationships stories of sibling rivalry and brutal zany نشانی‌ها parenting you ll love this If tales of runaways from the FBI tweak your interest this is for you Tosca and her brothers and sisters are named after operatic and showbiz characters All gifted and courageous in dealing with one shock after another their story resembles the heightened narrative of an opera complete with comedy and tragedy I don t want to give anything away but I found the journey of this feistyrotagonist deeply moving and satisfying An Honest ReflectionSome of the most interesting Ask Yourself This people are theroduct of upbringing and circumstance The lives of Good Witch, Bad Witch people we ve never met can be full of gripping stories complete with the daily drama that unfolds in background Ms Perin s latest autobiographical novel is an honest and courageousresentation of a search for truth within one s own life For me the genre itself is interesting because it differs from a memoir in that the author chose not to claim the story as a 100% accurate The Tokyo Zodiac Murders presentation of events That in itself lends credibility to the story as I find most memoirs to be the author s idealerception of self In Perin s novel names may have been changed some details of locales and maybe even of events may have been slightly altered but I d venture to guess that most of what the author s main character Tosca experienced throughout the story was largely based on fact and truthTosca Ring is the 4th offspring in a family of 9 Tosca s mother was a movie and opera fanatic and named their children after movie stars and opera singers The story opens with the Ring family living in NY City and for unknown reasons started taking holiday trips that turned into extended moves Tosca and her siblings were in a constant state of adjusting to new schools new rules new friends and neighbors all the while never able to disclose anything about her family situation Her Yours, Mine and Ours (Second Chances parents were secretive irresponsible and ultimately abusive toward their children On the outside the Ring family may very well have beenerceived as mysterious intriguing jet setters However the dreary and disturbed lives that each of children endured were amplified by the lack of attention and extreme treatment received from their Riverview, Gone But Not Forgotten parents The story spans the most influential years of Tosca s life from a young age until late teens As an avid and curious reader I m of the belief that authors are motivated to create andublish for a multitude of reasons Perin may have written this novel in order to confront the naked truths of her own life Beyond Boneshaker (BA 43-500, pure entertainment my interpretation of the result was that Ms Perin foundeace by confronting the reality of her life in the A Star Is Born process of sharing it with others. When Tosca Ring is seven years old she abruptly goes on vacation from her home in New York City to Cuernavaca Mexico with herarents and six siblings during an FBI investigation into her father's Mafia dealings From there she is catapulted into a nomadic life A review of the author s accomplishments as an artist writer and musician are a testimony to the ossibility of overcoming family disfunctionYoung adult readersparents should be warned that some of the assages in this novel contain vulgar language romiscuous situations and violence All of it felt genuine honest and written with urpose I came away with a realization that family disfunction and abuse can be a thin layer away from what most of us might see I also came away reflecting on the resiliency of resourceful and hopeful individuals Margo Perin I suspect many readers will identify with Tosca AND THE LIVES OF HER SIBS the lives of her sibs maybe find eace in the knowledge that they are not alone Tolstoy wrote that every happy family is the same but every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way he might have been writing about the family of Tosca Rung In Margo Perin s Super Minds Level 2 Students Book with DVD-ROM poignant autobiographical novel we hear theowerful voice of this bold little girl as she grows up in a family dominated by a father who is not only brutal to his seven children but a crook of such enormous Challenged to Win proportions that Tosca has moved many times in the middle of the night from New York to Mexico the Bahamas Florida Scotland and England before she reachesuberty Perin captures the child s voice erfectly describing what s important to her from stealing candy from the corner store to a moment s kindness from a friend s mother and wondering about the things she cannot fathom especially her father s fists her mother s complicity in his violence and why the family has to change their last name every Compelling beautiful sad triumphant Lovely writing full believable characters Thank you Margo for sharing your stories with us I ve just finished The Opposite Of Hollywood It s 1239 am the earliest moments of my Hollywood It s 1239 am the earliest moments of my morningI ll admit I was a little lost at the beginning of the book In the virtuous erspective of the young Tosca I was slightly unamused with the first vacations as to me they felt very lay retend You must know that I The Color of a Leader put down my commitment my thick brick of a book Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace for this I think it is understandable that myerception was all twisted when I exchanged the voice of Wallace a seasoned master of mind and life for Tosca trying to master and understand the imbalance of her lifeBut as Tosca grew older so did my understanding and I began to realize that my Tosca s own innocence had become mine I was just as confused about the vacations as she was And along with this dumbfounded and ashamed for my own obliviousness when this realization occurred a good hundred Into the Planet pages into the book as theower of your writing overwhelmed Tosca tumbles through adolescence bumps bruises and tiger stripes adorning her along the way but I Dusk (Rosales Saga, probably don t have to tell you that because Tosca is yours andresumably Tosca is you But beyond these hysica. Arked by secrecy and false identities Her father's criminality continues and the family continues to go on vacation often in the middle of the night always without warning through five countries and two continents As they move so too do Tosca's internal landscap.

L marks of maturity she learns lesson after lesson whether it is ounded into her or not She learns guilt and blame and ressure She learns to sit with her loneliness in pounded into her or not She learns guilt and blame and ressure She learns to sit with her loneliness in crowd And although her adolescence to me is very strange these lessons are very much familiarWhat struck me the most and left my insides shaking emotional were the ages in which she encounters the risks of relationships Abusive and unhealthy relationships will always exist but seem to be a ressing current issue among Clara After Dark - 01 people my age The time she goes home with John in Glasgow and he s shooting up made my insides crawl It made me feel incredibly lucky to be sixteen and have never encountered that outside of the crime shows I binge watch on Netflix Theregnancy followed by an abortion was all too real for young girls in the world some of whom I know And the reactions from her Quanta Reset (The Shadow Ravens, parents were those of which girls my age are lucky to avoid with the help of accessible resources And for Tosca these were justarts of growing up Unlike young adult novels that touch on these topics these were not and then my world came crashing down moments They were real raw moments that happened and life moved on And the way you wrote them as so was the most important So in all truth it s a hard novel to sit with It s a sad story and the reader has to sit in the sadness because the sadness is the truth and though it is uncomfortable it is necessary I so beyond enjoyed this read I would love to read of your writing and if not that read anything you recommend From the floor of my heart thank you for the vacation I received a copy of this book as a Goodreads Giveaway I wasn t able to ut it down once it arrived I got sucked in to the story of the character Tosca based on the author s own childhood I laughed with her got scared with her cried with her and struggled with the unknowns faced ahead I ll give away no spoilers in this review but this was a great read Looking forward to by Margo Perin Perin has a riveting story to tell and she does so with suspense and a sensory flair As the family careens from one setting to another from New York to Mexico to Nassau to Florida to Glasgow to London each location comes vividly alive She builds almost unbearable suspense as we wait for each of the children especially Tosca to discover a way to survive and escape we wait for each of the children especially Tosca to discover a way to survive and escape clueless arents This is an important book for anyone who values a good story and the triumph of the human spirit I "particularly like thinking of it in the hands of teachers and therapists because small acts of kindness from "like thinking of it in the hands of teachers and therapists because small acts of kindness from and other caring adults shine out like brilliant beacons from these ages It s astounding when an author can tell such a harrowing violent and depressing story so beautifully and simply The Opposite Of Hollywood an autobiographic novel is a riveting story of the multi layered life of a family alway. Es Her life becomes a chain of shifting realities linked by secrets and shaped by growing violence and deceptions As Tosca grows into young adulthood she fights back to discover her true identity The Opposite of Hollywood is based on author Margo Perin's childho.
