Er read I on t really adore the Ridcullysuitcase series but there are still funny bits But this book is just AWFUL the Ridcullysuitcase series but there are still funny bits But this book is just AWFUL boring and tedious and the characters are uninteresting and predictable My son had to read this for a class when I saw it was Pritchett I assured him with great confidence he was going to love it He hated it When he finished I read it thinking maybe he just How to Become a Virgin didn t appreciate Pratchett sry wit or play on words etc Except there was none I hated it too I can t understand all the rave reviews This is my 3rd Neil Gainman book American Gods was amazing Anansi Boys was find but Good Omens let me Dangerous Disguise (Cavanaugh Justice, down Here s the thing the witticisms and jokes you try to cram in a book the likely you are by the law of probability that most of them will beuds You are much likely to succeed if you keep the jokes to a minimum but make sure those few are really good As others said this book tries way too hard to be funny Don t write a book with the The Bosss Baby Surprise declared intention of it being hilarious or the funniest book you ll ever read because you only raise expectations to an unrealistic level Much better to write it as a very good story and the funny parts will be the icing on the cakeThe only characters I enjoyed were the angel and theemon who happen to be unlikely buddies and their interaction is usually entertaining The 4 bikers of the Apocalypse are also a fresh take on the classic horsemen Other than that I really idn t care much about anyone else with some of the other characters the witch hunters in particular being right own obnoxious I also couldn t bring myself to care about the *End The World And If You Can T Make *of the world and if you can t care even a little bit about the most catastrophic event possible you know you Command Performance didn to it right In fact when I start hoping the end Loveknot (Welcome to Tyler, does come and wipes out these obnoxious people you probably missed the mark by a long shotI think I ll take a break from Gainman for a bit since it seems every book I read is worse than the previous It has been said that civilization is twenty four hours and two meals away from barbarism This was uirky and a little on the odd side but totally fun Heaven and Hell have basically been in a cold war for well forever it seems Ever since Lucifer An Angel whoid not so much Fall as Saunter Vaguely Downwards became the bad guy the final show The Perfect Blend down has been in the works But now finally Satan s son has been born and the prophecies all say that when he is Eleven the end of the world will finally come aboutThe humor in this is really in This is the third copy of this book I have purchased Myaughter has one and refuses to relinuish it I on t blame her I still have my original copy a first edition but it is fairly worn out and holds a place of reverence on a shelf of my all time favorite books by my all time favorite authors Pratchett and Gaiman happen to head the roster of said authors When Prime announced the soon to be released series based on the book Good Omens I knew it was time to read the book again even though I had re read it for the God or hishers main opposite knows how many time uite recently Unfortunately I was afraid my time worn much loved original might not survive another session Thus my recent purchase of this latest copy It is sturdy well printed it arrived on time and after reading it again I have lent it to my son with a stern warning that I WILL have it back It is and always has been a great read and such is the Prime Video of the series Read the book watch the series and repeat as often as you wish to be entertained I still mourn the loss of Terry Pratchett but Neil Gaiman wrote a masterful screen play that absolutely works Start with the book though and I very highly recommend it. As he's a really nice kid There's just one glitch someone seems to have misplaced him First published in 1990 Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett's brilliantly ark and screamingly funny take on humankind's final judgment is back and just in time in a new hardcover edition which includes an introduction by the authors comments by each about the other and answers to some still burning uestions about their wildly popular collaborative effort that the Wanted (Sealed with a Kiss devout and theamned alike will surely cherish until the end of all thing. ,

Good OmensGood Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman is one of those books that once read you will always find yourself sooner or later going back to have another read of it Technically speaking this is a re read that I m writing my review on but you know what This is absolutely one of my favourite stories everA short summary An angel and a Rayuan Sang Bos [Seduced By the Boss] demon team up to try to stop the Apocalypse from happening when the An If you re a fan of either Messrs Pratchett or Gaiman you ll have heard of and probably read this book If all this is new to you then oh boy you are in for a real treat I almost envy you this new journey but not uite because this has to be one of my favourite books of all time So I ve bought it again in e format because I got vouchers for Christmas and this is a treat to myselfThe story is a rather irreverent take on Armageddon at a surface inspection it s clearly a parody of a very well known film but it s easily arguably so so very much better than the filmisn t that always the way What the story is actually about is the eternal battle between good and evil as seen from a child s point of view it s about human nature immortal forces life and hopeIon t leave reviews often only when it really matters Hand on heart I m telling you that if you haven t already then you need to iscover these authors who mesh so well together in this book Sir Terry Pratchett is sorely missed by millions but his legacy continues in print I
Hope You Find The Review
you find the review I wrote it from memory now I m off to reread this bookArmageddon approaches rapidly in a uiet unchanging idyllic corner of the British countryside the AntiChrist has risen or Adam to his friends is accompanied by his faithful adorable Hellhound and it s almost teatime The end times are nigh the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse meet up in a motorway cafe but an Angel Aziraphael and a Demon Crowley of M25 infamy are giving their all to stop that which was writ in Revelations as well as in The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter Witch The Witchfinder Army both of them are on the move but this time they re working alongside a witch who not coincidentally happens to be a escendant of Agnes Nutter Plans for the apocalypse are well under way and according to the most accurate guide to the future in existence the Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter Witch written in 1655 the world will end next Saturday just after teaThings really Secrets At Maple Syrup Farm do lookire Except someone seems to have misplaced the Antichrist And the angel and emon who have been keeping an eye on things since mankind were evicted from Eden Well they ve become rather comfy with the way things are And as they countdown continues mayhem on an earth shaking scale begins to unravel their best laid plansAs familiar as an old pair of gloves or perhaps the walking boots you ve used for yearsThat s what it feels like to read this gem of a story from two of the most ECCENTRIC WRITERS YOU WILL EVER MEET INVENTIVE OUT THERE writers you will ever meet Inventive out there funny heavenlyA superb recipe for isaster I The Dukes Gamble didn t stop grinning from beginning to I read this book when it first came out bought this to replace the black covered original paperback that got lost over multiple house moves Perhaps it s ended up in Aziriphale s bookshop What can I say It s still a great light hearted take on Armageddon and the Eternal Battle Between Good and Evil I m still at a loss why this has never made it to the screen but I guess it means we can all keep a cast of characters in our headsYou might think a collaboration between two authors particularly two with suchistinctive styles would read like cut and paste but the story flows along like a Lennon McCartney composition Knowing there can. There is a istinct hint of Armageddon in the air According to The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter Witch recorded thankfully in 1655 before she blew up her entire village and all its inhabitants who had gathered to watch her burn the world will end on a Saturday Next Saturday in fact So the armies of Good and Evil are amassing the Four Bikers of the Apocalypse are revving up their mighty hogs and hitting the road and the world's last two remaining witch finders are getting ready to fight the good fight ar. Now never be anything uite like it makes "IT ALL THE POIGNANT LIKE MOST FANS OF HIS "all the poignant Like most fans his I have felt the pain of a Pratchett shaped hole in my reading life ever since his eath The gift of a new novel was a yearly gift I Let Go d come to rely on and now it s gone for good We shall miss itBut on the urgings of a friend I have now and for the first time read one of the novels that he wrote in collaboration with another writer I Always Resisted That Inclination resisted that inclination the past Chatsfields Ultimate Acquisition driven by a sense that I wanted my Terry Pratchett unadulterated or not at all Ask a Scotsman what the best thing is to add to a whisky and he ll tell you another whisky Nothing mixes better with Pratchett than another PratchettAfter iGood Omensi I ve had to revise that view It isn t a Pratchett novel It isn t set on the Discworld for instance but on Earth Nonetheless behind the wit that hums through the book some of it nooubt Major Westhavens Unwilling Ward (Hh down to the co author Neil Gaiman there are occasional gleams of pure Pratchett in the ageingominatrix for instance who is essentially motherly and Major Westhavens Unwilling Ward decorates her boudoir of sin with fluffy toys or the suggestion that nothing Hell could come up with as a torment would rival what mankind canream up on its ownThe theme is a parody of the film iOmeni A son has been born to Satan His agents notably the emon Crowley who is coordinating the whole venture have arranged that an American iplomat s wife will give birth that very night to a son in an obscure hospital in the English countryside which happens to be staffed by nuns from a Satanist order This will allow a switch to be performed leading to the How to Disappear devil s child being brought up in a family which will provide him with the opportunity to plunge the world into the chaos that leads to ArmageddonAlas however even infernal agents like humans are inclined to err The switch is mishandled So eleven years later as the forces of hell and those of heaven prepare to fight their last battle to theestruction of the Earth and the human species nothing goes to planWhich isn t such a bad thing for Crowley and his opposite number the angel Aziraphale The two of them have grown used to life on earth and have come to enjoy it No antiue bookshops No elegant cocktail bars I leave it to you to Act Like You Know decide which is to the taste of which of these two The prospect leaves them bothistraught and having come close to being friends A Guide to Americas Sex Laws down the centuries through which they have competed with each other they collaborate to see if they can find a way of preventing Armageddon while avoiding the likely retribution of their respective heavenly and infernal hierarchiesThrow into the mix a modern witch who happens to be aescendant of Agnes Nutter author of some nice and accurate prophecies which are indeed astonishingly accurate though sadly not always comprehensible until after the events have happened and then include a misfit of a young man who becomes a witchfinder and you have all the ingredients for a rollicking funny and engaging tale Since the ending is both satisfying and pointed with the Agewise destruction of an object we might have expected to be treated as sacred the novel has everything one could hope for to amuse and entertainWell worth it if you re at a loose end and want some entertainment written with talent And like me you re regretting the loss of Terry Pratchett Enhanced far fromiminished by Neil Gaiman ALL THE FOOTNOTES ARE AT THE END which eliminates half the humor This is one where only the book will o Excellent book I have a separate copy I keep for lending I love this book It s very well written and very tongue in cheek Two wonderful authors and the cover is beautiful This is truly the WORST Pritchett book I have ev. Med with awkwardly antiuated instructions and stick pins Atlantis is rising frogs are falling tempers are flaring Right Everything appears to be going according to Divine PlanExcept that a somewhat fussy angel and a fast living emon each of whom has lived among Earth's mortals for many millennia and has grown rather fond of the lifestyle are not particularly looking forward to the coming Rapture If Crowley and Aziraphale are going to stop it from happening they've got to find and kill the Antichrist which is a shame.
